Description
Nature Watch from Above – Oberhaus Wildlife Observation Tower
Indian Summer in the Defereggental Valley: Fall is setting in deep in the Defereggental Valley, and the Oberhaus Swiss stone pine forest glows in brilliant golden yellow and fiery red. The 22-meter-high wildlife observation tower offers you a breathtaking view of the largest contiguous Swiss stone pine forest in the Eastern Alps and is the destination of this guided ranger hike.
Through the spotting scope installed on site, you’ll enjoy a unique view of East Tyrol’s wildlife and birdlife. In the wild, you never know what to expect, but with a little luck, you might even spot one of our large birds of prey in the Hohe Tauern National Park (bearded vulture, golden eagle, etc.).
On the short walk from the Oberhaus parking lot (toll road) to the Alpengasthaus Oberhaus, informational signs provide interesting facts about the ecosystem of the Swiss stone pine forest, and, accompanied by the national park rangers, you can also learn a great deal about the forest wilderness in the deepest reaches of the Deferegg Valley.
