The History of the Klosterhof

525 Years of Enthusiasm

525 Years of the Klosterhof – celebrated as a festival bringing together guests and locals at a 525 dm-long banquet table, with brightly lit lanterns lining the oak-lined avenue and accompanied by an ecumenical blessing from the local churches.

A celebration that showcased just how much history, unity, and heart the Klosterhof embodies.

Our special thanks go to everyone who has shaped this place over the years and fills it with life every day.

1500–1803: The Klosterhof served as the economic center of the Augustinian Canons’ Abbey of St. Zeno and was taken over by Berchtesgaden farmers as part of the secularization process.

1860: The Klosterhof received its liquor license, making it one of the oldest dining establishments in the Berchtesgadener Land region.

From 1950: The Klosterhof was used as a boarding school. Fun Fact: Romy Schneider’s brother was a student here—a good reason for our “Sissi” to stop by time and again.

1987: The Lederer family purchases the Klosterhof and opens a charming 3-star hotel with 14 rooms.

2001: Their daughters Stephanie and Alexandra take over the business. Steffi is now our HR manager 

2011: Henrike and Andreas Färber fulfill a dream and continue to run the guesthouse as is for the time being while refining their plan to build an innovative medical wellness hotel.

2014: The historic building is renovated, and a modern new structure blends harmoniously into the landscape.

July 2016: The property reopens as a 4-star superior hideaway with 65 rooms and a unique concept.
