Every year, shortly before the start of summer vacation, Ravensburg transforms into a city of celebration: that’s when the traditional Rutenfest is celebrated. This student and local heritage festival has a long history and is deeply rooted in the city’s identity. It attracts not only Ravensburg residents but also many former residents who deliberately time their return home to coincide with this special occasion.

The Rutenfest brings together people of all generations and walks of life—longtime residents and newcomers, families, friends, and guests. Together, they celebrate their connection to the city and the joy of a vibrant tradition that has been cherished for centuries.

Today, the Rutenfest is a celebration for the entire city. Nevertheless, schoolchildren remain at the center of the festivities. The eponymous symbol—the leaf-adorned rod—is still carried by children and teenagers, serving as a reminder of the festival’s origins.
