The Belvedere was originally a baroque summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, built between 1712 and 1723 by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt.
Today, the Belvedere is home to one of the most important art museums in Austria, with famous works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka, among others.
The palace complex consists of the Upper and Lower Belvedere as well as beautiful gardens with cascades, ponds and fountains.
A historical highlight at Belvedere is the Marble Hall in the Upper Palace, where the Austrian State Treaty was signed in 1955 - a symbol of regaining independence.
If you visit Vienna, you should plan enough time for the Belvedere, because between the magnificent rooms, the splendor of the gardens and the art treasures, a visit can hardly be enjoyed in a hurry.
