Following its successful debut two years ago, the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic will once again perform at the Chorin Music Summer in 2026. This time, the program—featuring Igor Stravinsky’s ballet music “The Firebird”—will transport the audience into the world of Russian fairy tales. KiKA host Juri Tetzlaff will narrate the story of Prince Ivan, who, with the help of the Firebird, defeats the evil sorcerer Kashchei and his demons. Stravinsky composed this work at the beginning of the 20th century for the so-called Russian Ballets in Paris, and it marked his breakthrough in Paris in 1911. Just as mystical and electrifying as the story itself is Stravinsky’s music, with its complex rhythms and impressionistic, iridescent sounds performed by a large orchestra.
