Dresden Kreuzchor
Conductor • Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann
From the Songbooks of the Kruzianer
For most people, the Dresden Kreuzchor is associated above all with the magic of its bright, clear boys’ voices—a magic that no one can resist. As Dresden’s oldest cultural institution, the Kreuzchor is closely tied to the city’s cultural life and serves as its representative to the outside world. Even after more than 800 years, one of the Kruzianer’s most important tasks remains singing during liturgical services at the Kreuzkirche on Dresden’s Altmarkt. In addition, the choir shapes the city’s concert scene through choral concerts featuring an extensive repertoire of choral music—ranging from Schütz and Bach through Mozart, Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Brahms, Schumann, and Weber to contemporary works—and encompassing both sacred and secular music. And “on the side,” members of the Kreuzchor regularly participate in performances at the Semperoper. As ambassadors of this truly unique musical tradition, the young singers perform in guest appearances throughout Germany and on tours around the world.
