The opening concert of the Kissinger Sommer presents the festival theme "Je ne regrette rien" with a panorama of French music - from the Romantic period to the present day with a work by the distinguished contemporary composer Camille Pépin. Debussy's "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune" marked the birth of Impressionism, while Saint-Saëns' "Egyptian" piano concerto displays the exoticizing sound fantasy that is characteristic of the French repertoire. The subtle piano virtuoso Jean-Yves Thibaudet will perform alongside the traditional Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, continuing his decades-long association with the festival with this guest performance. "I never feel remorse" said the ageing Don Juan, whom Richard Strauss memorialized in his rousing tone poem.
