Das König Ludwig

Das König Ludwig, Kreuzweg 15, 87645, Schwangau

Details

The Bavarian royal house had leased the Kenzen area for royal court hunting since 1799. On the site of today's hut, King Max II of Bavaria had several simple hunting lodges built. One of these buildings was replaced by his son, the later King Ludwig II, in 1871 with a Königshäusl. The regent visited this hut regularly once a year in July. Despite being well preserved, the huts of the mountain residence were demolished in 1939 and one of the buildings, the so-called Branntweinbrennerhütte, was replaced by the present building. The only remnant of the original building is a horse stable, which is now used by the mountain rescue service. The Kenzenhütte is located in the centre of the Ammergebirge nature reserve, nestled between the Kenzenkopf, Hasentalkopf and Grubenkopf. To the south of the Kenzenhütte is the prominent Hochplatte (2082 m), slightly below is the Kenzen hunting lodge and a former customs hut, which is now used by the Bavarian mountain rescue service. From the hotel you cycle past the Bannwaldsee lake to Halblech. Here you will come to a stream called "Halblech". Here you turn right before. This way leads you to the hikers' car park where a path on the right leads into the Kenzental. Follow this asphalted path until you find a shelter and a gravel path on your right. Follow the gravel path until you reach a fork. Here you follow the signs towards Kenzenhütte. Take the same path back to the hotel. Distance: 50.00 km Walking time: 5:30:00 Altitude difference: 632 m Opening hours: from 10:00 o'clock to 21:00 o'clock warm kitchen until 19:00 o'clock snack until 20:00
