Around the Reschen and Haider lakes

Helpful facts

The tour starts directly at the hotel. Right at the start, you reach one of South Tyrol's most famous landmarks: the sunken church tower in Lake Reschen, which rises silently out of the water and is reminiscent of the lake damming of 1950 - an atmospheric start to the tour. From here, follow the cycle and gravel path along the western shore in a northerly direction to Reschen - past meadows, pastures and the sailboats waiting in the wind.

In Reschen, turn left before the Austrian border towards the western shore. The trail leads past the valley station of the Schönebenbahn cable car, up a gentle slope along the lake to the southern dam wall. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Malser Haide and the Ortler group (3,905 m).

The Haidersee loop follows directly from here without any major interruption. You cross the dam wall and follow the gravel path along Lake Haidersee - always close to the water and with a constant view of the Ortler massif. Particularly beautiful: the wooden footbridge between the fishermen's houses and the west side of the lake, where you have to descend briefly and push. The route is family-friendly and also suitable for children.

After the loop around Lake Haidersee, you return to the dam wall and from there along the eastern shore of Lake Reschen back to Graun. When the wind is good, kiters and sailors accompany you for the last few kilometers along the lakeshore.

There are numerous places to stop for refreshments along the route - e.g. at the Sciuri at the Schöneben valley station, at the Greinhof or Giernhof taverns, at the new kite station or in the inns in Graun and Reschen.

The tour is also easy to do without an e-bike, as it is mostly flat and only has a few gentle inclines.
