2. Option / Difficulty: Sonneggbrücke – Breitenebenalm – Karseggalm – Kitzstein/Gabel (Summit 2,037 m) – Maurachalm – Gernkogel – Alpendorf
The tour starts at the Sonneggbrücke parking lot and follows the forest road or a beautiful trail uphill to the Breitenebenalm. From there, the route continues uphill to the Karseggalm, the oldest mountain hut in the Salzburg region at 1,603m. Tip – be sure to stop for a break!
From the Karseggalm, the trail leads steeply up to the Kitzstein (2,037 m), or as the locals call it, the Gabel. Shortly before the summit, there’s a section of steeper terrain to navigate—sturdy footwear is required.
The second half of the tour, after descending from the summit, takes you down to the Maurachalm and back to St. Johann at the Gernkogel.
