Mountain hike from Val Senales to the farms of Unterstell

On the Merano High Trail we hike comfortably from Katharinaberg in the Schnals Valley to the Unterstell farms on the Naturnser Sonnenberg.

Meeting point for this tour is the parking lot at the sports field in Latsch. We drive together with our own car (about 15 minutes by car from Latsch) to the valley station of the cable car Unterstell in Naturns. With the bus (8:55 a.m.) we go together to the Schnals Valley our starting point of this mountain hike. From here we will hike along the Meraner Höhenweg, one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the entire Alpine region, which is located in the Texelgruppe Nature Park. In the up and down, it goes past mountain farms that cling to the steep mountain slopes high above the Schnals Valley. In painstaking work, the farmers have created meadows here, where even today can be mowed only by hand - so steep are the slopes. The mountain farms blend picturesquely into the natural landscape, the barns traditionally built of dark wood, and in many places there are small farm chapels. At lunchtime we will stop at a cozy mountain inn and indulge in regional delicacies. After this stop we will go downhill again to the top station of the cable car which will bring us back to the starting point at the parking lot.
