Veterans Day Parade

On the second Friday in September, the Schwangau Veterans and Soldiers’ Association commemorates Veterans’ Day, a day to honor those who fell in battle.

At 6:30 p.m., the procession, accompanied by the marching band, marches from City Hall to the parish church of St. Mary and Florian in Waltenhofen. A memorial service is then held there, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial next to the parish church. The Holy Mass begins at 7:00 p.m.

The first commemoration took place on January 31, 1853. With this annual event, the association aims to renew the reminder left by the fallen comrades: To advocate for peace and refrain from resolving conflicts through violence. The Schwangau Veterans and Soldiers’ Association is the only one in the region that commemorates the fallen on such an anniversary. In other towns, this is done only on National Day of Mourning. All residents and visitors are cordially invited to attend.

Starting around 6:40 p.m., the parade will pass right by the hotel!
