History of the Hotel

This historic 17th-century hotel

is in a great location.

Right in the town center and at the start of the

pedestrian zone.

The Hotel Alte Post was built as early as 1656 by

Bartholomäus Amman. Around the turn of the

19th century, a minor

conflict arose between

the postal administration and Carl Franz Schuler, the

then-postmaster and innkeeper,

whereupon the post office was relocated. The old

inn underwent a series of renovations and new construction during the interwar period and after

1945.

Around 1965, a new

model farm, the “Schulerhof,” was built in the barns.

Subsequently, the old stable and barn

next to the Gasthof Post were renamed the “Hotel Alte Post.”

Since 1992, the Hotel Alte Post has been

owned by the Tandl family, who renovated it almost entirely by

1999.

The centuries-old parlors have gained

fame throughout the world. Ralph Benatzky composed

the song “Sankt Anton am Arlberg” in the Stüberl from

the operetta “Herzen im Schnee”. The lyrics there read:

In Sankt Anton am Arlberg, in the Stüberl at the Post,

there I sit in the evening and drink my cider.
