Description
Join us on a journey into Prads’ industrial past—the lime kiln in Schmelz tells the story of hard work, craftsmanship, and history at the Stelvio Pass.
This elaborately built kiln was once used to produce quicklime, which was used in construction and agriculture. Today, the lime kiln is the last surviving structure of its kind in the Vinschgau Valley and was restored in 2024.
As a hands-on historic site, it offers an impressive glimpse into the history of craftsmanship, mining, and the region’s early industrial past.
We’re opening the gates to this special place and inviting you on an exciting journey through time, blending nature, technology, and tradition.
Tip: Combine your visit with a walk along the Frau Waal Trail No. 9 or a short bike ride—where nature meets industrial culture!
Guided tours in German every Thursday at 4:00 p.m.; registration required by 6:00 p.m. the day before—at the Prad am Stilfserjoch Information Office or online.
