Helpful facts

Ignacy Jan Paderewski (1860 - 1941) was one of the first global superstars of music and the most famous Pole of his time. The pianist was sung about as a "long-haired genius" in American pop songs, played for Queen Victoria at Buckingham Palace and President Roosevelt in the White House. But Paderewski was also a politician: in 1919, he became the first Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the re-established Republic of Poland. Musicologist, organist and pianist Dr. Bogusław Raba from the University of Wrocław and historian, philosopher and civil rights activist Wolfgang Templin will introduce this unusual figure in conversation with festival dramaturge Dr. Jan Brachmann. Dr. Bogusław Raba will also play music by Paderewski.
