When the summer comes to an end, the cattle are led from the high alpine pastures down into the valley and return to their stables at home. In Mayrhofen in the Zillertal this is celebrated with a big festival.
show less From the Zillergrund, the Stilluptal, the Tuxertal and from Ginzling the decorated cattle come at noon around 12 o'clock in the valley to Mayrhofen. Their entry into the village lasts until about 3 pm. Visitors can look forward to a programme of festivities along the main street from 9.30 am, with delicacies, live music and stalls selling local produce. The traditional procession starting at 9:30 a.m. from Wholesale Rieser is a must-see. The whole day is celebrated with music on stages in the inns and hotels of the village.
