Mammoth Cave

Cave labyrinth of superlatives The endless expanses of the Dachstein massif from the inside - the huge mammoth cave will thrill you with its unbelievable dimensions and a play of colours that you wouldn't expect to see under the earth of the Salzkammergut! The name Mammuthöhle was chosen by the discoverers because of the enormous dimensions of the underground rooms and passages in this cave system. Currently, more than 70 kilometres of these passages have been explored, just under one kilometre of which can be walked through during the guided tours. You can enjoy the time until the guided tour in the mammoth cave at the idyllic Schönbergalm. Here you can visit the new exhibition "Dachstein in climate change", explore the children's adventure cave, let off steam on the alpine floor kick or climb the adventure trail to Bamhittl. You can reach the mammoth cave via a well-maintained path where you can enjoy the fantastic view of the valley.
