“Lumberjack Z” is truly extraordinary—both its lineup and its repertoire are rarely seen in the music world. The lumberjack’s tool is the saw, which Sabine makes sing with a bow and great sensitivity. Sabine also joins in with mini-percussion, vocals, a jaw harp, and a ukulele. Max conjures up a soundscape for the saw with his banjolele and a wide variety of ukuleles, adds a fun element with his own lyrics, and captivates his audience with solo parts on this small instrument.
And “New to Lumberjack Z is James Michél, who adds an extra touch to the songs with his brilliant playing on the fretless bass.”
The music features a mix of beautiful to quirky melodies, lighthearted parodies, and evergreens. You can have a good laugh, for example, with “Schuld war nur vom Boss das Sofa,” but you can also immerse yourself in the otherworldly realms of “The Godfather” and “Misirlou”—the latter including the fantastic story from Greek mythology. In “Ave Maria,” the singing saw sounds like a warbling countertenor, and everyday tragedies are brought to life with dark humor in songs like the “Ways to Die Blues,” among others.
Lumberjack Z – Hard to describe, but easy to enjoy…….
