Bacherhütte (1,727 m)

The Bacherhütte, located at an altitude of about 1,740 meters on the Gitschberg , is one of the most popular alpine huts in the Gitschberg-Jochtal hiking region. It’s a cozy destination for families, hikers, and nature lovers, and is known for its sun terrace, magnificent views, and excellent homemade apple strudel. You can look forward to traditional South Tyrolean specialties, plenty of nature, and a relaxed mountain hut atmosphere.

1. Directly from the Mountain Lodge Margit

Walking time: approx. 2 to 2.5 hours

Elevation gain: approx. 350–450 meters

Difficulty: easy to moderate

the route continues via Meransen toward the Altfasstal valley or along the alpine pasture trails to the Bacherhütte

2. Starting at the Gitschberg Mid-Station

A particularly family-friendly option

Start at the mid-station of the Gitschbergbahn

Walking time: approx. 45–60 minutes

Difficulty: easy

wide forest and alpine pasture trails

perfect for families with children or a leisurely afternoon outing

3. By the Gitschbergbahn – the panoramic route

Take the Gitschbergbahn up to the mountain station

followed by a hike along the well-known Alpine Hut Loop Trail to the Bacherhütte

Walking time from the mountain station: approx. 1.5–2 hours

easy to moderately difficult hike – alternatively, take the lift to the middle station

with stunning views of the Dolomites, the Puster Valley, and the Pfunderer Mountains

We especially recommend combining this hike with the popular Gitschberg Alpine Hut Loop Trail:

Mountain station → Gitsch Hut → Moser Hut → Bacher Hut → Kiener Alm → Pichler Hut → Mountain station.

This circular hike is one of the most beautiful leisurely hikes in the region and connects several rustic alpine huts with magnificent panoramic views.
