Finland has become famous for the enormous number of top international conductors it has produced in the last half century. Susanna Mälkki is a pioneer for women on the podium. She has already conducted the world's most famous orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the New York Philharmonic and the Gewandhaus Orchestra. She has brought with her the Sixth Symphony by Jean Sibelius from 1923, a work that the composer said always reminded him of "the scent of the first snow". The Finnish soprano Camilla Nylund will perform songs by Sibelius for soprano and orchestra.
