Details

We hike through the water tunnel, which was dug by hand in 1950, in total darkness with only a torch to get close to the Gallruthalm. The old water tunnel runs deep through the mountain and gives an idea of the harsh conditions under which it was dug in the post-war period. Good footwear is a prerequisite for the hike through small puddles of water and a headlamp is an advantage, but you can also take a torch, whose light inside the mountain gives this tour a very special charm. Once on the other side, it is not far to the Gallruth Alm, where we will enjoy our first well-deserved break in the middle of the mighty Kaunergrat ridge. From there, we return via an airy & breathtaking high-altitude trail to the Falkaunsalpe, which is only a few minutes away from the starting point. With a view of the Weissseespitze and the Gepatschferner, the largest plateau glacier in the Eastern Alps, we enjoy a long rest. Bring your own snacks, as the hut is probably not yet open at this time of year.
