The almost 90-year-old Zurich Zoo is idyllically situated on the Zürichberg in the Fluntern district. The zoo is located above the roofs of the city in the greenery, but is easily and quickly accessible from the city center.
There are about 4,000 animals distributed among 380 species living in the Zurich Zoo. The oldest inhabitant is called Nigrita and is a Galápagos giant tortoise. She is over 70 years old and has been at home in Zurich Zoo since 1946.
Zurich Zoo is an ambassador between humans, animals and nature. With experience-rich initiatives and programs, it contributes to the continuation of biological diversity and takes care of the transfer of knowledge to young and old.
