Tour description:
This easy circular hike with spectacular views leads through the colorful alpine rose landscape around Obersee at the Staller Sattel. Especially during the blooming season in early summer, the area on the border between East Tyrol and South Tyrol shows itself at its most beautiful. The Obersee is known for its impressive alpine rose populations and offers a unique nature experience.
The starting point is the parking lot at Malga Staller on the Staller Sattel. From there, we follow the trail toward Obersee and reach the national border between Austria and Italy after a few minutes. Along the lakeshore, bright red alpine roses and magnificent views of the crystal-clear waters of Obersee accompany us.
On the left, a short, easy ascent branches off to the “Zwei-Seen-Blick” viewpoint. From here, an impressive panorama opens up over Obersee in East Tyrol and Lake Antholz on the South Tyrolean side—two lakes, two valleys, and two countries in a single glance.
After a leisurely rest, the route leads back to the main trail. The route continues past the Heldenkreuz, which sits atop a small hill overlooking the lake and offers a particularly beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
We then take a leisurely hike to the Gasthaus Obersee, which is located directly on the lakeshore and invites you to stop for a break. From the sun terrace, you can once again enjoy the view of Lake Obersee and the surrounding peaks.
The return route is a relaxed walk along the lake back to the starting point at Malga Staller. A short, family-friendly loop hike with magnificent views, impressive alpine rose blooms, and plenty of photo opportunities.
