Right into the heart of the Rosengarten’s impressive rocky landscape: Two striking mountain passes, high-altitude trails with stunning views, and ever-changing vistas of the surrounding Dolomites make this challenging mountain hike a truly special experience.
Tour description:
We start with the Tiers open-air cable car and continue via the Frommer Alm on the König Laurin 1 and 2 panoramic lifts to the Kölner Hütte. This is where our hike begins with the ascent along Trail No. 550 to the Tschagerjoch at 2,630 m, the highest point of the tour. After a short break, we descend on the other side and continue hiking toward the Cigolade Pass. Crossing the tour’s second pass, we reach Trail No. 541 and follow it to the Rotwand Hut, where we stop for lunch. We then hike past the Christomannos Monument and return to the Kölner Hütte via the scenic Hirzelsteig trail. From there, we take the ski lifts back to St. Zyprian.
Hiking time: 6–7 hours

Places to stop for refreshments: Rotwand Hut, Pederiva Hut
Difficulty: Technically challenging hike; sure-footedness and very good physical condition required. Alpine boots and hiking-appropriate clothing, rain jacket, sunscreen, and a hat; water bottle;
Any tickets for mountain railways as well as lunch are not included.
The Guest Pass for use of public buses is available free of charge to our guests at the front desk.
We recommend the 3-in-7 or 5-in-7 Mountain Pass. This allows you to conveniently use the various cable cars in the area. The Mountain Pass is available at the tourist office and at the Tiers cable car.
