Bunker hike

The circular trail starts in the village center of Montal near St. Lorenzen and leads through meadows and forest landscapes, past two bunkers:

Bunker no. 10

The show bunker is facility number 10 - which was already fully operational in 1942. Bunker no. 10 was also equipped with weapons (guns and machine guns) and was even prepared for a possible attack with nuclear weapons. The bunker is now privately owned and can be visited on request by the local population and also by vacation guests on a guided tour.

The pleasure bunker

A relic from the Great War - a tunnel driven into the rock - has been converted and is now used to mature South Tyrolean and international cheese special ties. The Genussbunker in Montal is the first in South Tyrol to be adapted for refining, maturing and storing cheese specialties.
