The 180 km long Wachau World Heritage Trail connects 13 picturesque communities and leads you along historic mountain trails to impressive castle ruins, idyllic wine terraces, majestic monasteries and the 960 m high Jauerling. The trail is divided into 14 stages plus a Jauerling loop and can be planned individually.
Stage #2 from Dürnstein to Weißenkirchen is a particular highlight: via the Eselsteig trail in Dürnstein, past a show garden of the Wachau saffron manufactory, you reach the famous castle ruins where Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned. A detour to the Dürnsteiner Kanzel, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Wachau, is well worthwhile. The stage ends with breathtaking views from the stone terraces in the charming wine village of Weißenkirchen. 🌿🍇😊
