Sigmundkron Castle above Bolzano is an important political symbol for the South Tyroleans. In 1957, the largest protest rally in the history of the country took place here, when the South Tyroleans demanded their own autonomy. Today, the former castle ruins have been turned into a mountain museum by the most famous South Tyrolean, mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner. We were there and can recommend it without hesitation!
