Birds Big and Small

This leisurely hike around the Matreier Tauernhaus is all about the region’s feathered inhabitants. With binoculars and a spotting scope from Swarovski Optik, you’ll spot large birds of prey such as bearded vultures, griffon vultures, and golden eagles—the kings of the skies.

You’ll learn fascinating facts about their lives, their migrations, their nesting sites, and how their habitat is protected. With a little luck, you might also spot falcons, whinchats, rock thrushes, or the red-breasted finch.

What you’ll need:

✔ Sturdy hiking boots with good soles

✔ Outdoor clothing (including rain and sun protection)

✔ Backpack with a snack and drink

✔ Hiking poles (if desired)
