Bergkristall - Mein Resort im Allgäu, Willis 8, 87534, Oberstaufen
The Salt Train reenacts the historic journey of the “white gold” between the salt depots in Immenstadt and Simmerberg with 11 wagons and over 30 horsemen.
The “Historic Salt Train 2026” sets out from Immenstadt in the Allgäu to begin its “arduous journey” via Thalkirchdorf, Oberstaufen, and the “Hahnschenkel” to Simmerberg and the salt trading post there. The procession includes 11 heavily laden historic carts and carriages carrying valuable cargo, such as barrels of salt, beer, and wine, as well as bales of fabric.
After setting off from the Viehmarktplatz in Immenstadt, the procession makes its way through the old town via Marienplatz, where the Salt Train is expected and introduced at 9:30 a.m. as part of a town festival. The journey continues along the Alpsee to Thalkirchdorf. Here, the Historic Salt Train will be ceremoniously welcomed at around 12:00 p.m. with music and light refreshments. After a break of about 90 minutes, the procession will continue on toward Oberstaufen, where it will pass through Hugo-von-Königsegg-Straße at approximately 2:30 p.m. and will also be introduced by a host.
