Festung Nauders

Dorf 797, Pfunds
The only fully preserved fortress in Old Austria built to protect Tyrol’s southern border.
The fortress was built around 1840; across from it stands the barracks with its bunkers carved into the mountain. From here, the defensive wall dating back to the early Middle Ages—the Niklasmauer—stretched up the mountain. Remains of it can still be seen today.
Summer: May through September, every Wednesday and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
Winter: Fortress closed
