Tennengebirge - Werfner Hütte (2,000 meters) - Wengerau
From the Unterholz farmer, follow the trail to the Alpengasthof Mahdegg. There you cross the access road and immediately take the path that leads directly uphill through the forest. At the fork in the path in the forest, keep right and follow the path further uphill. Cross the stream and reach another fork in the path. Keep left here - not to the Elmaualm, but further uphill. The forest is already thinning out and you walk uphill on the open alpine pastures. Finally, the trail climbs steeply once again to the Werfener Hütte, which stands at 1,969 m below the Hochthron. The first part of the descent follows the same route as the ascent. At the first junction, however, take the path in a south-easterly direction to the Elmaualm. From here, a beautiful path leads down into the valley to Wengerau, where our hiking bus will pick you up again.
