The Franzensfeste is an old, extensive Austrian fortress at the northern exit of the Eisack valley. In recent years it has been converted into an impressive museum complex with art exhibitions and even a small bar. Our highlight is the information stand on the construction of the Brenner base tunnel - a project of the century in the crossing of the Alps. "Tunnel" is also a good keyword at Franzensfeste itself, as there are wide underground passages leading through the complex, where you can move freely once inside.
