Museum of Art History

The museum was opened in 1891 and was originally intended to exhibit the extensive art collections of the Habsburgs in a representative "temple of art".

It houses objects from over 7 millennia, from the art of Ancient Egypt and ancient sculptures to European paintings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

The picture gallery includes masterpieces by artists such as Dürer, Raphael, Rubens, Velázquez, Rembrandt and Vermeer.

A particular gem is the Kunstkammer Wien, where bizarre and precious objects are collected, including the famous "Saliera" by Benvenuto Cellini.
