Details

During the traditional Christmas tree dive on December 25, the ASBÖ Water Rescue Service in Zell am See gives thanks for an accident-free year of operations and commemorates those who have lost their lives in accidents on the lake. Starting at 5:00 p.m., a Christmas tree that was previously submerged at a depth of 15 meters is ceremoniously brought to the surface by the rescue divers—accompanied by brass musicians and an impressive circle of torch-bearing swimmers. The mayor and the pastor will offer brief words of greeting and blessings to you and the emergency responders before a small fireworks display over the lake brings the event to a close.

For nearly five decades, this contemplative event has drawn locals and visitors to Oberschneider Bay between the Grand Hotel and the Zell am See beach, where you’ll be treated to mulled wine and punch at the punch hut starting at 4:00 p.m.

Come on by—admission is free—and support the water rescue service!

Bus line: 660 to Postplatz, then toward the Grand Hotel; after passing the Grand Hotel, head toward the promenade
