The Baron Widmann winery is located in the old family residence in the center of Kurtatsch. In 1783, our ancestor Johann Mathias von Kager zu Mayregg und Entiklar acquired the manor house. The oldest existing building dates back to the Gothic period and was significantly extended during the Renaissance. In 1708, an extension was built to the south, which was raised by another two storeys in 1860. The last notable renovation took place in 1904.
It was not until 1905 that our branch of the family moved from Margreid to the Kurtatsch estate. In 1954, our family acquired the Auhof from Baroness Salvadori in Entiklar.
For generations, we have dedicated ourselves to viticulture in addition to our agricultural activities.
In 1977, during clearing work in the family-owned Nockerische vineyard, Roman finds were discovered. During the subsequent extensive archaeological excavations, wooden parts of a vine were also recovered, which were dated to 300 AD based on coin finds.
The grapes were harvested on August 29. Fermentation and ageing took place in steel barrels on the lees with weekly batonnage for 8 months.
