Lake Reschen is located in the western part of South Tyrol, in Graun near the Reschen Pass. Its striking landmark - the church tower rising out of the lake - makes the lake, which is about 6.6 km long and 1 km wide, unmistakable and well-known far beyond its borders. The communities of Reschen and Graun as well as the hamlets of Kaschon and Spin lie directly on the deep blue lake. Until 1950 there were three lakes here: the Reschensee, the Mittersee and the Haidersee. When Lake Reschen was dammed after the construction of the dam (1947-1949), the entire village of Graun and part of the village of Reschen were submerged in the floods and numerous houses were destroyed.
