Maltatal Hochalmstraße with airwalk on imposing dam wall

Austria's highest dam is located at 1,933 m above sea level - the Kölnbrein dam. Even the journey there is a little adventure: an adventure drive on the 14.4 km long Maltatal Hochalmstraße.

The road is characterized by natural stone tunnels carved out of rock and sharp hairpin bends, which make the journey a pleasure for both car and motorcycle drivers. At the narrowest points, two traffic lights ensure the safety of guests. Vehicles can be parked at the parking lot at the end of the road. From here you can reach the viewing platform, the Berghotel Malta. This is also the starting point for numerous hikes in the Hohe Tauern National Park in Carinthia's Malta Valley.

For a brave look into the depths, there is the Airwalk, a very special viewing platform at the Kölnbreinsperre dam. Those who venture out onto the platform experience the feeling of floating above the abyss. Large seating steps in the middle of the platform invite you to enjoy the impressive panorama.
