In a glittering sea of champagne, dancing and elegance, Violetta Valéry enjoys the vibrant life of Parisian society. But behind the glittering façade lies a woman whose heart seeks more than glamor and pleasure. When the young Alfredo Germont enters her world, a different life seems within reach - one based on love and sincerity. But in a world where money and social reputation are paramount, there is little room for feelings.
With La traviata, Giuseppe Verdi created an opera of painful beauty - with poignant arias, gripping choral scenes and an orchestral sound that makes the longing and drama of this tragic love story palpable in every note. Kirill Karabits and Pietro Rizzo, who are appearing at the Bregenz Festival for the first time, will conduct the music.
For this production, Italian director Damiano Michieletto transports the action to the glamorous world of the Roaring Twenties. Against the backdrop of glittering jazz clubs and decadent evening parties, between hunger for life and fragility, Violetta must make a decision that irrevocably seals her fate.
