Who chased the cow up the mountain?

After about a hundred days, the alpine summer is over. The shepherds return to the valley with their well-fed cattle. In the past, their route often led directly to the cattle markets. However, as fewer and fewer farmers sold their animals and instead took them back here in the valley, more and more cattle sheds developed in the region.

When the herd has reached the shearing area, it passes through a wooden shed, at the center of which the animals pass through one by one to the respective shepherd of the alpine pasture. The shepherd calls out the name of the owner, who then receives the cattle. The animals are separated<.

The day before the cattle drive, there has always been a lot of hustle and bustle on the Alps. The animals are dressed up, the big bells are put on and the three cattle that have grown the best are adorned with a magnificent wreath.

In the case of dairy cows, the two with the best milk yield and the most beautiful cow receive a wreath as a headdress. However, this is only awarded if no animal has suffered a fatal accident on the Alps during the summer.
