Kochelsee and Walchensee

The two mountain lakes Kochelsee and Walchensee are located near Oberammergau. Both are connected by the Walchensee power station and the Kesselberg. There are wonderful hiking trails around the lakes.

Walchensee is shaped like a triangle and has a maximum depth of 190 meters. There are numerous bathing spots around the lake, some of which even offer barbecues. In the summer months, when the weather is sunny, the unique location between the mountains creates a pronounced thermal effect, which is particularly appreciated by sailors and windsurfers. The lake with its clear water is also very popular and well-known among divers, as boat, car and plane wrecks can be found at a visibility of up to 40 meters. You can also hire a boat or hike to the top of the Herzogenstand and enjoy a fantastic view. Truly a beautiful lake in the Bavarian Alps.

Kochelsee is a 6 km² lake on the northern edge of the Alps with a maximum depth of 66 meters. It was formed during the last ice age from the Isar-Loisach glacier and is slowly silting up in the northern part of the lake in an extensive raised bog. There are many bathing beaches for water lovers. Rowboats and pedal boats are available for hire and there are beautiful paths around the lake for an exciting cycle tour. At the Kochelsee there is the wonderful Kristallt Terme trimini - always with a wonderful view of the lake. The Kochelsee is a wonderful recreational area and offers everyone a wonderful opportunity to relax or to be active.
