Hike with Max: In the Footsteps of the Ski Pioneers
Max takes you on one of his favorite hikes—and it’s quite the adventure: not because of the distance, but because of the stories he tells along the way. From the hotel, we walk to Karatsbichl, the place where skiing began in Oberstdorf. This is where the first ski lifts ran, where ski instructors gave their first lessons—for children as well as adults, who still learned skiing as a true art form. An insider’s trail—which Max chose quite deliberately—leads across quiet mountain meadows and past old hay huts up to the Edmund-Probst-Weg. Anyone who has stood up here and understood what mountain haymakers used to accomplish will see this landscape in a different light. The route continues with a view of Lake Freiberg to the Heini Klopfer ski jump—a sight that never fails to impress. If you’d like, you can see the inside of the ski jump tower. Afterward, you’ll have earned a cozy break before heading back down to the valley on one of the many trails.
