"This lecture reports on a journey lasting almost six months, which could hardly be more varied. My colleague Marcel and I are on the road in South America by motorcycle, and I also go mountain climbing and dive into the depths of the Amazon rainforest far away from any civilization.
We ride through deserts and impressive regions of the Altiplano up to 5,000 meters above sea level and have pleasant and dangerous encounters with the country and its people. This is followed by an unforgettable adventure on the Patagonian ice sheet, I experience a seemingly archaic animal world on the Falkland Islands and we finally reach Antarctica on a sailing ship. What a magnificent ice world we have now arrived in!"
