Helpful facts

After a brief introduction to the history of the Dolomites, which are surrounding the pilgrimage of Maria Weissenstein, we begin the guided tour of the monastery Maria Weissenstein, which is Tyrols most important and largest place of pilgrimage and former summer residence by John Paul I. A very special event in the History of the monastery Maria Weißenstein was July 17, 1988, as Pope John Paul II with thousands of believers celebrated a Holy Mass. Thousands of believers visit the place of pilgrimage each year. The high altar of the basilica, covered with gold leaf and silver leaf, as well as the side altars and the frescoes on the vault are worth a visit. Hundreds of Votive panels are kept in a side aisle to the church. The guided tour includes historical, architectural and and spiritual insights into life within the Monastery in which fathers of the Servite Order live and maintain the monastery. Glimpses into the extremely interesting library finish the guided tour.
