Details

Copper has always been copied and silver-plated... in the history of Tyrol, copper has been produced since the Bronze Age and silver has been extracted from the ore since the Middle Ages. The heyday was in the 15th and 16th centuries. (

The local miners who became rich had to hand over the silver they mined to the provincial prince at the mint in Hall, but were allowed to sell the copper freely. They converted proud castles into comfortable residential palaces:

Veit. Jakob Tänzl lived in Tratzberg Castle, Sigmund Fieger resided in Matzen Castle. Talk is silver, silence is golden....and for once I'm a "golden boy" and keep quiet...because there's so much to discover here. The journey of discovery begins with an overview of the geological conditions in Tyrol and an extensive collection of minerals.

Prehistoric finds, starting in the Stone Age over 6,000 years ago, form the transition to the beginning of mining activity. Depictions of the Schwazer Bergbuch and Agricola's drawings show that mining and metallurgy was a perfectly organized business in the 15th century.
