The director describes his artistic approach this way: “Cinematically, I’m often interested in the small moments and stories that happen to come my way; I then make them a little bigger, a little more meaningful.” But what is “chance”? Does life follow a fixed plan, or are chaos and probability in control? A chance encounter between Hermann Willisch (1938), Ephraim Salzmann (1979), and Willy-Franz Kurth (1954) gave rise to a spontaneous film project under the guiding principle: “Only on a case-by-case basis is chance truly chance.” The film showcases a fascination with the hammered dulcimer, explores the essence of the free spirit, and reveals how a falling apple set everything in motion.
