A cultural highlight under the starry sky
When evening falls over Burgenland in summer, one of the most impressive natural stages in Europe comes to life: the quarry in St. Margarethen. Massive rock faces, millions of years old rock formations and an open sky form the backdrop for a very special opera experience. Here, nature and art, breathtaking acoustics and archaic landscape merge to create a unique feeling of freedom and grandeur.
Puccini's masterpiece "Tosca" - love, passion, suspense
From July 15 to August 22, 2026, the quarry will be transformed into an opera house. August 2026, the quarry will once again be transformed into a top-class open-air stage: with Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca", one of the greatest works of opera literature, visitors can expect an emotional evening full of love, intrigue, power and dramatic climaxes. The haunting melodies - from Tosca's poignant "Vissi d'arte" to Cavaradossi and Scarpia's gripping arias - unfold a special effect in the monumental quarry setting, which can be felt even more intensely under the open sky.
A feast for all the senses
The performances start in the evening, when the warm light of the sunset bathes the rocks in golden tones and the orchestra's music merges with nature. Numerous dates between July and August offer the opportunity to enjoy this extraordinary experience - alone, as a couple or as the cultural highlight of a summer stay with us.
Unforgettable, atmospheric, unique
Whether opera lover or newcomer - "Tosca" at the quarry is an experience that lingers long after: the power of the voices, the dramatic plot, the spectacular backdrop and the very special magic of an evening under the stars.
