From Lech to Formarinsee | To the source of the Lech

The long-distance hiking trail "Lechweg" describes the route from the source of the Lech to the fall in Füssen. It is definitely worth hiking the first stage in the opposite direction. This takes you from the center of Lech to the source of the Lech at Lake Formarin. The most beautiful place in Austria in 2015 is therefore the destination of this hike.

Start in the hiking village of Lech. From there, the trail leads directly along the mighty mountain stream to the district of Zug. The Lechweg long-distance hiking trail, certified as a "Leading Quality Trail of Europe", leads further and further into the valley to Älpele, a small alpine pasture with refreshment stops. This is followed by the most beautiful part of the Lechweg: the wooden footbridges directly at the confluence of the Formarinbach and Spullerbach streams, the place where the Lech is born as a stream. The Lechweg continues over stones and roots past cascades and bubbling springs across green, lush mountain meadows to its beginning, which is marked by a bronze ibex statue. At the end of this fantastic hike, the Formarinsee lake with its bright blue color awaits hikers as a rewarding destination for the day. From there, the blue Lech local bus takes you back to the hiking village.
