Helpful facts

The fort of Oga is located at an elevation of about 1730 meters above sea level in a location that was identified with the toponym Dossaccio. Planned already in the early 1900s, at first at the Motte di Oga, it was then built here between 1908 and 1914 to defend the main Alpine passes with an eventual conflict with Austria and a possible enemy crossing from nearby Switzerland in mind. From this dominant Bormio post all the main access routes to Alta Valtellina, from Foscagno to the Fraele valleys, from Stelvio-Umbrail to the paths to the valleys of Valfurva, could be easily beaten.
