Bulgaria - Europe's unknown treasure
Meeting point: Bio Hotel Helvetia - UG - Mining event room
Ralf Schwan was supposed to travel to South America in 2021, but the pandemic made traveling difficult. The choice fell on Bulgaria - a country full of pristine landscapes, mountains, villages, cultures and traditions. In July 2021 and again in May and June 2022, Bulgaria was discovered as a dream hiking destination.
The country offers impressive mountain peaks, countless mountain lakes, deep gorges, caves, wild rivers and a unique karst landscape. Thracian, Roman, Ottoman and Slavic influences characterize Bulgaria, which lies like a forgotten treasure in the Eastern Balkans. The most famous mountains are the Rila, the Pirin, the Rhodope and the Balkan Mountains.
Away from the well-known beaches on the Black Sea, small villages, a wild rocky coast and the Strandzha Mountains with their nature reserve can be found in the south of the coast. The Rose Valley and the Balkan Mountains offer untouched nature and spectacular views.
Highlights include the Rila Monastery, the 7 Rila Lakes and the fire dancers' ritual in the Strandzha village of Bulgari. The journey continues via Veliko Tarnovo and ends in Sofia, the modern capital.
In this reportage, Ralf Schwan shows the diversity of Bulgaria with impressive photo and video sequences. Experience the adventure "Bulgaria - Unknown Treasure of Europe".
