Ridge hike from the Zillertaler Höhenstraße into the Tux Alps

From the Melchboden bus stop, we quickly leave the hustle and bustle of the Höhenstraße behind us and first reach the Arbiskopf (2,133 m). An almost Scandinavian landscape spreads out around us, which we can admire from our second summit, the Rauenkopf (2,268 m). In summer, we are joined by grazing cattle in the high alpine pasture region, which is criss-crossed by many small hollows and wetlands and is full of alpine flowers. Our wonderful ridge hike finally ends when we branch off to the left shortly before the ascent to the Kreuzjoch and soon reach the Rastkogelhütte (2,117 m). After refreshments, we hike back to Melchboden and take the hotel bus back to Tuxertal.

Character: Challenging hike with 400 m ascent.

Duration: approx. 5 hours; of which 3 to 4 hours. pure walking time

Cash for refreshments, sturdy, ankle-high shoes, water bottles, a change of T-shirt, rain jacket
